A tortoiseshell sewing box circa 1820. Standing on well cast hairy paw feet, this sarcophagus shaped box has ivory banding and escutcheon with metal panel and this metal banding to the top. The top opens to reveal a velvet storage area surrounded by five compartments with tortoiseshell lids, one with a row of six cotton reveals with flower shaped tops.
