A wonderful Chinese root carving, this sculpture is in the form of an old man with a beard and stands on a heavy, sturdy base.
– Attractively carved, with nicely formed facial features, hands and feet.
– Main carving fits into heavy stand with a peg carved onto the bottom of his right foot.
– Dark painted stain overall is distressed, with lighter patches showing through.
– Extremities intact.
– Cavity in his left hand is empty, suggesting that he once held something in that hand which is now absent.
A lovely piece of oriental art, this will look great on display and can either stand on the floor or on a piece of furniture.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The extremities are intact. There is apparently something missing from his left hand where there is a hole for an insertion.
