An amazing amethyst citrine geode. Citrine geodes are rock cavities with internal crystal formations in colours ranging from pale yellow to deep orange and ranging from transparent to translucent. Citrine geodes can be small nodules cut in half or pieces of larger geodes sold as crystal clusters.
Named from the French word for lemon,”citron”, many citrine gems have a lovely lemon colour. Citrine includes yellow to gold to orange-brown shades of transparent quartz. Although the darker, orange colours of citrine, are the most expensive, many people prefer the bright lemony shades which mix better with pastel colours. These geodes can be referred to as an Amethyst Citrine Church due to being typically tall and thin and shaped like the arch of a cathedral.
This particular one has some lighter yellow around the edge and as you look deeper into it, it becomes a lovely smokey yellow, almost like a quartz. This is a lovely example. Circa 130 million years ago!
