This fantastic miniature was painted in watercolours on ivory, after Richard Cosway, and is of Maria Anne Fitzherbert. She was a longtime companion of George IV of the United Kingdom before he became king. In 1785, they secretly contracted a marriage that was invalid under English civil law because his father, King George III, had not consented to it.
Richard Cosway was a famous leading English portrait painter of the Regency era, noted for his miniatures.
Condition: This miniature is in excellent condition. Some of the surrounding frame is starting to tarnish. Please view all pictures for details.
