A quality piece of furniture, this lovely bureau bookcase will make a beautiful addition to a traditional interior and provide functional space for a laptop working area, with additional storage below. The piece separates at the bottom of the bookcase for ease of removal. The top is glazed to both sides and has two adjustable shelves on saw tooth rests. Relatively shallow, the shelves are 14 cm deep and will be ideal for smaller volumes. The bureau has a gilt tooled leather writing surface, with three drawers to the back, and the cupboard at the bottom has an adjustable shelf, again on saw tooth supports. The whole piece has a beautifully carved border design in the Dutch style throughout, with gilt stringing and a lovely inlaid design around the bureau keyhole, all indicative of the level of quality presented here.
Dating to circa 1830 to 1840, this is made of rosewood and originates from the Netherlands.
In good age related condition, this has the minor wear and marks expected for a piece which has been in use for around 200 years, but is generally a lovely piece.
