This elegant armchair has a beautiful design and is very similar to the Edward Godwin chair in the Victoria and Albert Museum which was designed for the home of the industrialist William Kenrick in around 1880. It differs from that in having an H rather than a crossed stretcher, but many other features are comparable and it is a lovely quality piece. The seat can be removed and it is a good, comfortable width.
Dating to circa 1880, this is made of walnut and originates from England.
In good age related condition, this has some small chips from the wood surface of two of the ‘corners’ which make the frame of the seat, but these are relatively unobtrusive. Wear is consistent with light use, the rush work is in good condition and the piece is a sturdy seat.
