A superb tapestry from the 19th century. Tapestries are a woven decorative fabric, the design of which is built up in the course of weaving. Broadly, the name has been used for almost any heavy material, handwoven, machine woven, or even embroidered, used to cover furniture, walls, or floors or for the decoration of clothing.
This particular one depicts a 15th gentleman wooing a young lady, in an ornate garden setting. The red of the lady” dress compliments the blue of the man’s cloak and tunic beautifully. The tapestry is set in its original Burr Maple frame with original backing.
Tapestry has traditionally been a luxury art afforded only by the wealthy, and even in the 21st century large-scale handwoven tapestries are too expensive for those with moderate incomes.
This lovingly made tapestry gives you the opportunity to have a piece of art history in your home at an affordable price.
