An absolutely beautiful silver Victorian desk candlestick by William Comyns. Comyns had been a well known silversmith since the mid Victorian period specialising in the famous “Reynold Angels” design and only producing high quality silver. William Comyns Silversmith was first established in 1858-59 and later went on to become William Comyns & Son company in 1885 when William Comyn’s two sons, Charles Harling Comyns and Richard Harling Comyns were admitted to the firm.
This piece of theirs comes on a circular base chased with profuse scrolling foliage and flowers. This is a wonderful example of a Comyns piece. Hallmarked for London 1891.
