An absolutely superb example of an 18th Century Silver tankard. Tapered cylindrical mug with tongue on scrolling handle and a heart shaped motif at the base. There is banding around the middle and a large inscribed cartouche. The tankard was made by the legendary William Grundy. A British silversmith who was apprenticed to Edward Vincent in 1731. Registered marks in 1743, 1748, 1777, and in 1779 in partnership with Edward Fernell. This piece is hallmarked for LONDON 1764 and is the largest silver tankard we have seen at the centre for many years . A fantastic item!
