An attractive mid 20th century tile wall art piece, this is signed J. Belarti and shows a Harlequin style clown figure playing a mandolin.
– J. Belarti is a design brand known as Juliette Belarti about whom little is known, but who may not actually be an individual, but instead a BELgian ARTIsts group, perhaps involving the Belgian ceramicist Julien de Covemaeker.
– Belarti are known for tiled top tables with colourful designs as well as this form of wall art.
– The tiles are mounted on painted black wood, which is framed in a strong and heavy black iron frame, with a hanging strut and bracket at the back.
– The figure is made up of five square tiles and shows a harlequin style musician with a mandolin, in black and white clothes with a blue background.
This will look fabulous in a mid century interior, perhaps complementing a tile top table by the same design team.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use.
