A striking and unusual painted oak box on a separate stand, this will make an attractive and useful storage addition for any home. The painted decoration is in the folk art tradition and has a European feel to it, with a date of 1790 on the front. It has iron handles on either side, long internal hinges and metal banding at the corners, with a large locking mechanism remaining inside, although there is nothing in the lid to connect a lock. There is a boxed area, similar to a candle box, inside and an unidentified fitting along the back. The main part of the box and the metalwork may well match the date on the box, but there has likely been some alterations over its life.
Dating to the 19th century and earlier, this is made of oak and originates from Europe.
In good age related condition, the box and stand are sturdy and has the wear and appearance expected for a piece of this age. There is no key available and the locking mechanism is not operational.
