A wonderful pair of 19th century cast iron pedestal urns, these have fabulous handles formed by entwined snakes and will make a wonderful addition to any garden. They were made between 1840 and 1860 at the Val d’Osne art foundry in north eastern France, a company renowned for its decorative patterns inspired by the antique and classical.
– Urns sit in separate fitted square bases.
– Heavy, sturdy and stable.
– Weathered dark red colour.
– Holes in the base of the urn bowls for free drainage.
– Snakes entwined with two heads at the base of each handle and their tails along the rim.
– Gadrooned bowls.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. They have a weathered appearance, but there is no structural damage and the thick metal is strong and intact. The rim of one has two slightly upstanding nail heads present, with a third filed down.
