A large, heavy 19th century carved mahogany wine cooler with a lead liner, this is a fabulous item which can continue to be used for its original purpose and will make a great focal point in a dining room.
– Carved lion heads on all 4 sides, with gilt metal rings in their mouths.
– Sectioned lead liner.
– Ornate carving all round, with fruit and leaves at all four corners.
– Heavy, sturdy piece.
– Stamped near the lock with “R. Strahan”, the renowned Irish furniture maker.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The lock is present, but no key is available. There are some chips, marks and scratches around the base, and polished out scratches on the top, with a small section of base veneer missing. These do not detract from the quality of the piece and represent the character of long use.
