A charming Scandinavian folk art piece, this 19th century carrying chest of blue painted bentwood is about the size of a large hat box. It will make a lovely storage option, perhaps for a bedroom or boudoir.
– Bentwood bound by iron strapping, with a large iron lock and carrying handle.
– Large key available, with lock still operating.
– Distressed blue painted background, with flowers on the body.
– Dated 1838, both painted on the top and incised inside the lid.
In sturdy condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The paint is distressed and some of it has chipped away. There are two holes in the front, which relate to the lock fixture, with the lock being loosely attached inside. The key is available and the lock works.
