A charming note is added to this early 19th century mirror with the doves at the top centre. French marriage mirrors are traditionally carved giltwood pieces commissioned as wedding gifts. They often feature symbolic carvings on the crest, with the doves often being associated with marriage iconography and traditionally presented to newlyweds.
– Carved with dove, leaves and flowers.
– Good reflection, with a dark, slightly mottled, mirror plate.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There is some sparkling along the bottom edge of the mirror and a small chip to the glass at the top edge, towards the centre. Minor chips to the gesso throughout. Some historical woodworm is present at the back, with some minor associated damage, but this is not live.
