An attractive little 19th century oak table, this has three enchanting carved dolphins at the base with a twist and flip in their tails which evokes the mythical movement of a mermaid. They have a similar look to some of the dolphins seen in the furniture at Brighton Pavilion. It will make a wonderful occasional table for any room and will doubtless provide a talking point.
– Beautifully carved dolphins, with visible scales.
– Tri-form carved base.
– Central turned and carved pillar.
– Top is slightly off circular, reflecting its hand made nature.
– Top is connected to the base by a carved wooden screw, so that it can be removed.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There are the usual checking cracks in the dolphins, but the piece is sturdy. The surface varnish layer is wearing away in places, particularly at the heads of the dolphins.
