A wonderful table lamp which comprises a heavily weighted silver plate Corinthian column, with a good quality faceted cut glass oil reservoir and a brass fitting above which has been adapted for an electric bulb and is marked “Messenger’s patent”. The base is marked “G.S”. This is a lovely piece which will display well in any room, but will look great in a library or study.
Dating to the early 20th century, this is made of silver plated metal and glass, and originates from England.
In good age related condition, the wiring for this has been cut beneath the bulb holder and the piece will need to be rewired by a qualified electrician. The glass is in good condition, with no cracks or major chips, although there is a tiny nibble on one of the facet corners which is difficult to see. The silver plate has rubbed on the fluting, and there are some small marks on the base which are unobtrusive.
