A lovely piece of 19th century rustic furniture, this lambing chair is on rockers and has the traditional winged high back and drawer beneath the seat. This type of chair is traditionally from the Lancashire and Yorkshire dales, in a region where sheep farming is prevalent, and they are said to be designed so that a lamb can be kept warm by the fire in the drawer beneath. This will make a great addition to a country kitchen or a cottage fireside, with a generous, comfortable seat ready for a padded cushion.
– Winged back and shaped arms, with enclosed sides.
– Useful storage drawer in base with brass ring pull handle.
– Panelled back.
– Shaped crest.
– Turned stretcher at the back.
– Nice rocking action.
In good original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is a slight gap in the joint at the top right of the back, but the piece is sturdy and there is no movement.
