A wonderful piece of English history which continues to be a functional storage option, this oak coffer dates back to the 17th century and has a fabulous set of geometric carvings on the front panel. Ideal for blankets or linen, it will look lovely as part of a period interior.
– Comes with an original invoice from 1924 suggesting that it came from the collection of John Seymour Lucas of Suffolk, a respected painter who was also an antiquarian and collector.
– 2 plank top, quarter sawn to reveal attractive grain.
– Carved front, with bone inlay.
– Internal candle box.
– Coffered sides and back.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use over 400 years. As to be expected, there are some signs of historical woodworm, but these are not extensive and the damage is minimal.
