A wonderful work of early 18th century Christian religious iconography, this sculpture is carved in fruitwood and painted over a gesso base. It is a great size for a decorative interior piece at just over a metre in height. Displaying the sign of benediction with his right hand and wearing vestments, this is likely to be a depiction of St. Nicholas.
– Painted red vestments overlying a grey robe beneath, with gold coloured highlights and wearing a mitre.
– Black plinth base.
– Bearded, with flesh tones to the face, neck and hand.
– Heavy, solid piece.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. His left hand is missing, with the right hand showing signs of repair at the wrist with some flex in it.
