A fine quality French Louis XV style bookcase, this piece has a really beautiful quartered veneer patterning to the sides and doors, with crossbanding, stringing and ormolu decoration. The doors are unglazed, with wire mesh in the top sections, to allow air to circulate around the books, for which it has four fully adjustable shelves which sit on serrated wooden supports. The doors open together, with a push fitting rounded vertical edge fitting into a groove on the other door, and there is a vertical locking mechanism. This is a lovely piece for any home and exudes quality and elegance.
Dating to circa 1900, this is made of kingwood, and originates from France.
In good age related condition, this is generally a lovely piece. There is a polished in scratch which extends across the top of the right side, but this is difficult to see and unobtrusive, as is a small dent in the wood at the top left corner of the left door. The key is available.
